This is my Grandmother. She was born in 1915 and died on 27-11-2016 at the age of 101.

Her name was Mavis McLeod Weatherburn

The following is something interesting she left us that maybe only 101 years of life experience gives a person:

What I Have Learned

  1. Don’t try to be what you aren’t. People can see through an act and you can’t keep it up forever.

2. Accept people as they are. Forgive their faults- maybe they’ll forgive yours.

3. Arguing doesn’t solve problems. You won’t change the other person’s mind – they won’t change yours so agree to differ.

4. Never undermine your partner in front of the children or anyone. Wait until you are alone and then state your opinion kindly and calmly.

5. Be a friend to your children it will mean much to them to know that you are more than an authority figure.

6. Don’t be afraid to show love. We must all feel someone cares for us. How can we know if we are not told?

7. Love has no limits. It is not bound by physical barriers and it has many different aspects.

8. To allow a hurt inflicted by someone to fester inside you means you are hurting yourself more than the person who inflicted the wound.

9. Keep in touch with your family. Families are there for each other in times of crisis.

10. Give your children space to grow as individuals. It is OK to guide them, but they can’t always be what you want them to be.

12. If your conscience says “This Is Not Right”, don’t allow outside pressure to make you do it. Regret lasts a lifetime.

13. Give yourself time to relax. We are not machines, so find time to take it easy.

Take some advice from the thoughts of a lady who lived 101 years on this earth. To give you an understanding of what life was like in 1915: her mother needed hospital treatment and was taken to hospital by a horse-drawn ambulance.

Lastly, she went on her first plane at age 98.

RIP Grandma Weatherburn
